Inventor Jerome Case established the business of CASE in Racine, when he began the building of threshing equipment. Later the business gained recognition internationally as the first manufacturer of steam engines for its agricultural use. By 1912, Case had become established in the construction equipment industry. The rapidly began to make road building machines such as graders and steam rollers. Case grew their construction machine business through various acquisitions, beginning with the American Tractor Corporation during the year 1957. Case had expanded their business by the middle part of the 1990s to become the leading producer of medium-sized to light-sized construction equipment.
During the year 1999, Case merged with New Holland to become CNH Global. This corporation became responsible for marketing some of the world's leading brands of construction and agricultural machinery.
