During 1949, the Liebherr family business was created by Hans Liebherr. His first claim to fame was the success of his inexpensive and easy-to-assemble mobile tower crane. It was upon this creation that the company's foundation flourished under. Today, Liebherr has grown to become one of the top manufacturers within the world of construction equipment. The company has also earned the reputation of being the acknowledged supplier of user-oriented technically innovative products and services in a variety of fields. The business has now become a "Group" working in each and every continent with over 130 companies and more than 35,000 employees across the world.
In order to ensure a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into different company units. These units have been designed to operate separately. This specific set up enables the business the ability to stay in tune with worldwide competition and be flexible to market signals. Moreover, having so many individual company units also ensures customer proximity and keeps customer service running at an optimum level.
The divisional control companies handle the operative management of the sales companies and the production for the individual product segments. The Liebherr Group currently has ten different product divisions.
Liebherr Group's holding company is Liebherr-International AG. Liebherr-International AG is located in Bulle, Switzerland and is operating by members of the Liebherr family. Currently, the family business is being managed in the 2nd generation by Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr and his sister Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr. Ever since the year 2012, several of the active individual divisions have been represented by third generation family members including: Patricia Ruf, Stefanie Wohlfarth, Sophie Albrecht and Jan Liebherr. These family members have been working hard together to be able to help set up the family business' course in the future. They are staying on top of residential buildings and large-scale industrial projects all over the globe.
Hans Liebherr began to build his company during 1949, within a small town known as Kirchdorf in southern Germany. Kirchdorf, currently supports one of Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations. They are able to average an annual output of about 2800 wheeled excavators and employ more than 1400 individuals in that specific workforce. The company has enjoyed immense growth and diversity since it first opened its doors. The Liebherr Group continues to remain committed to engineering and implementing innovative designs. They have earned a positive and successful place within the material handling business.
