The forklift is an important piece of machine in most businesses that operate warehouses, distribution centers, industrial and storage handling plants. This wonder equipment, the forklift is constructed of many components, including the essential carriage, the engine, the power source and the wheels. Lift trucks normally have different types of attachments as well. The following are several of the most important components of a lift truck.

Lift Truck Engine - At the rear of the machinery, the lift truck has its power source. The different types of engine on the lift truck will need varying power sources. Like for instance, a forklift with an internal combustion engine can have as its power source any of the following: diesel, gasoline, CNG gas or LP gas. Electric motor lift trucks receive their power from fuel cells or a battery.

Truck Frame - the base of the forklift truck and the most important of all the forklift parts is the truck frame. This forms the equipment's core. All other lift truck components are attached to the base, like for example the overhead guard, counterweight, axles, mast and wheels. Fuel and hydraulic fluid tanks may be part of the frame assembly as well.

Counterweight Lift Truck Parts - While lifting heavy loads, the counterweight allows the machinery to be balanced. This specific component is cast iron and comes connected to the back of the lift truck. The counterbalance balances the frame of the truck so as to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being lifted or carried on the front. In an electric lift truck, the heavy lead-acid battery provides balance and may work as part of the counterweight.

The Cab Area - The cab is also known as the operator compartment. Lift trucks will sometimes have closed cabs while others will be open to the air. There are really a lot of parts situated in the cab for operating the forks. The cab contains such important components as the seats, pedals, switches, levers, steering wheel and operator controls. The dashboard has operator readouts.
