Forklift Battery Safety
The power to run electric lift trucks is provided by huge industrial batteries which have to be charged frequently and maintained properly. Safety procedures should always be followed when somebody connects the battery to the charger. It is really important to check fluid levels in the battery.
PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
It is essential for workers working with a lift truck battery to wear eye protection. Other PPG include goggles, safety glasses, or a full face shield. The right way to protect both clothes and skin from other residue or leaked acid is to put on an approved apron on the body and thick rubber gloves on the hands.
Emergency Eyewash Station
Near the charging area must be an emergency eyewash station. The route to the station should not be obstructed and a worker who is injured should be able to reach the eyewash post from the charging area within 10 seconds without running.
Charger Safety
The charger must be the same amperage as the battery. It should be turned off when the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
Open fire are not allowed near a battery and charging area. Never permit things like for example matches or lighters to be used when someone is checking the battery fluid levels.
Ventilation
The battery charging are also needs to be well ventilated. The recharging method can cause fumes to be released. These fumes are both explosive and poisonous.
