Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift is made up of a series of crisscrossed steel arms which are connected to create an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is located on top of the lifting apparatus. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism in order to keep the employees safe and help to secure their tools.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best suited for smooth surfaces such as hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These equipment utilize either an electric motor or a combustion engine to be able to power the lifting mechanism and move the lift. The operator will have to move the lift itself if he or she needs to travel horizontally, because the lift mechanism just operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the identical lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The key difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base that is specifically made for surfaces which are uneven. These models also provide higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive so as to navigate through difficult and muddy terrain with no trouble.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift utilizes a telescoping beam which raises both vertically and diagonally. This particular model has a small work platform which houses controls in order to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics that move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting equipment has a bucket or a small work platform which is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
In order to lift a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast. The lift is normally powered pneumatically or electrically and are self-propelled units. These equipment offer an excellent solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is really vital to remember that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
