Job Description
A forklift operator has the important task of safely moving objects from one location to another in a safe method. Personal Qualities
It is necessary for a forklift operator to have basic reading and writing skills. Moreover, the forklift operator must be physically fit and can comfortably carry 30 pounds. They have to be physically able to drive a forklift; hence, they require the physical ability of using both arms, both hands and both feet. The operator of the forklift should ideally be able to stand for an 8 hour shift. In most work environments, they would be entitled to a half-hour lunch break and two short coffee breaks during the day. It is very important that the operator of the forklift not be prone to reckless driving or rage of any type.
Training
Forklift training is usually done on the job. Training would often cover safety and control training, which can be completed in various ways. These could include videos, lectures and testing. A performance test will also be done on the forklift. When the tests have been successfully completed, a license can be issued. This license should be renewed based on provincial and state laws and based on shop procedures. If you get the chance to complete your lift truck training on the job, it is a great idea and it is a different skill you could include in your resume.
